On August 12, 2026, one of the most important astronomical events of recent decades will take place: a solar eclipse visible from much of Spain. It will be the first total solar eclipse visible from the Iberian Peninsula in more than a century, turning northern Spain into one of the best places in Europe to witness this extraordinary phenomenon.
From Etxalar, in the heart of the Navarrese Atlantic Pyrenees, visitors will be able to enjoy a privileged view of the eclipse. Although the official observation points designated by the Government of Navarre are mainly located in the Ribera region, our location offers an exceptional natural setting from which to admire this spectacular event in the sky.
Plan Your Experience
A large influx of visitors is expected throughout Navarre and many areas of northern Spain, so we recommend booking your accommodation well in advance and planning your journey ahead of time. Authorities anticipate significant traffic and increased mobility on the day of the eclipse.
For those wishing to learn more about the phenomenon, check the exact schedules or discover the best official observation points in Navarre, we recommend visiting the official Eklipse project website:
Eklipse Navarra – Official Eclipse Information
There you will find up-to-date information about observation sites, safety recommendations, related activities and all the resources prepared for this unique event.
Observe the Eclipse Safely
Direct observation of the Sun always requires certified eye protection. Never look directly at the Sun without eclipse glasses that meet the required standards, and never use optical instruments without appropriate solar filters. Official organizers recommend using only equipment certified according to the ISO 12312-2 standard.
It is also advisable to choose your viewing location in advance, check the weather forecast and arrive with plenty of time to enjoy the experience comfortably and safely.
A Moment to Remember
Solar eclipses are rare events and often become unforgettable memories. The combination of Etxalar’s stunning natural landscape, the special atmosphere of an August evening and this extraordinary astronomical spectacle promises a truly memorable experience for both visitors and locals.
And above all, enjoy the moment!
